Message from the Chairman

In our journey, SALA has been serving its cliental with dignity and pride. In imports, our main concerns have been the quality, durability and the after sales service which we had extended to our valued customers. The dedication and the attentiveness of our staff has made SALA build its reputation to the highest.

With the trend in the global market behaviours, we decided to extend our business module towards exporting quality items from Sri Lanka to the International Markets. With this in mind, we consider ourselves to be fortunate to join hand with LAKSALA to be their main Franchise Partner to cover 06 main and largest counties around the globe.

We have taken up the challenge of taking LAKSALA products to other countries without waiting for the tourist to visit Sri Lanka.

We are also happy that our business module will no doubt help the talented Artisans to reach their goals in becoming famous among the International cliental.

Mr. Chinthaka Wijewickrama addressing the participates at Laksala

Corporate  Social Responsibility (CSR)

The 30 year old war that prevailed in the country, the Easter bombing in April 2019 and the pandemic that followed has adversely affected the skilful talents of the Artisans. The absence of the arrival of tourist, the less numbers patronized at shopping malls and gift shops has also added plight to their misery.

This has resulted in many of them changing their profession and engaging themselves in farming or becoming daily wage earners for their existence.

Working along with the Artisans, we at SALA feel the great need to encourage these Artisans who are highly talented, but now decreasing in number. We feel they should be encouraged  and given a boost to their talents. We have planned to have workshops with programs designed to educate them in areas such as quality, reliability, time management, maximising profits etc which we believe will benefit their livelihood development.

We will also look in to ways where they would have proper working environments equipped with required light machinery wherever needed. In villages where there would be a cluster of Artisans, we will look in to the possibility of engaging in community development as well.

Business Module

Sri Lanka Handicraft Board, popularly known as ‘LAKSALA’ which is the only State owned Gift & Souvenir Boutique has been promoting the sale of local handicrafts since 1964. They are known for their innovative designs and unique range of products offered at  their 12 showrooms located island–wide.

LAKSALA has been providing a specific market to traditional craftsmen to market their products under one roof by following the National Crafts Council and Allied Institutions Act.

LAKSALA range of items as at today exceed 50,000 in number. These consist of handicraft, handloom, apparel, batik, tea, coffee, beverages, spices, organic

products, herbal products, hela osu, cosmetics, silverware, brass & burntbrass, gems & jewellery etc. Each item is checked properly for its quality before t goes to the shelves.

Most tourist that come to Sri Lanka visit  LAKSALA showrooms to purchase

souvenir items & others.  With the Easter Sunday bombing that took place in April 2019 followed by the pandemic in March 2020, the number of tourist arrivals  to

Sri Lanka dropped brastically. This affected LAKSALA sales in a big way.

Experiencing such a situation, LAKSALA  took a step forward to join hands with SALA Global (Pvt) Ltd to take their products to the International market. Soon SALA became their Franchise Partner for UAE, Japan, China, Australia, Canada and West & South Coast of USA, creating an awareness of the capabilities of the dynamic Artisans who create an amazing range of items.

In order to carry out this operation, SALA has appointed well reputed AGENTS in the respective countries to promote, market and sell the products by permitting to use LAKSALA logo as well as the Sri Lankan emblem. Since online purchasing has become very popular today, SALA has provided an attractive website linked to all their Agents.

SALA Global believes that through these operations, it would not only benefit the international buyers to reach out to their favored products, but also help and

support the many authentic Artisans who are at present struggling to survive in their profession by making a living.
